Body found in median of I-10 near Hwy 73
GONZALES - State Police say that a body was found in the median of I-10 near Geismar Monday afternoon.
According to State Police, they believe the person was a victim of a hit-and-run crash based on evidence found.
According to Bryan Lee of Louisiana State Police, morning crews found the body in the median just east of the LA 73 Geismar exit.
Lee said that State Police and the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office were on the scene.
The Ascension Parish Coroner's Office and the State Crime Lab will attempt to determine the cause of death.
Lee said that it's still very early on in the investigation and very "active."
No further details about the body were released as of Monday at 3 p.m.
"We are still working to identify the body at this time," Lee told News 2's Brett Buffington.
Lee also added that a time frame for how long the body had been in the median is yet to be determined. He called on the public to help law enforcement in the investigation.
"We do ask that anyone that may have seen anything in the last few days or so, anything suspicious to contact State Police or the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office," Lee said.
Lee said that lanes of the interstate are blocked on the westbound side for safety while the investigation continues.
Anyone that may have information about this incident can call State Police at 225-754-8500.
