7-year-old student shot in Calcasieu Parish classroom
MOSS BLUFF – An elementary school in Calcasieu Parish went into lockdown after a 7-year-old was shot inside a classroom Monday.
According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, the student was shot in a first grade classroom at Moss Bluff Elementary School. The sheriff said another child brought the gun to school and it fell out of a backpack. Another child picked it up and it accidentally fired, striking another child. According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, the student who was shot was an innocent bystander.

The sheriff's office says the child who was shot is stable and in surgery.
Sheriff Tony Mancuso said "the school is safe" and deputies are investigating. Mancuso said that deputies will determine if the parents of the child who brought the gun to school will be charged.
Deputies say the student was "accidentally shot" and no other children are in danger.
