HAMMOND - Sheriff's deputies in Tangiaphoa Parish released images of a cattle trailer that was found abandoned with 18 head of cattle inside along I-12 as their investigation continues.

On Monday, the Department of Agriculture and Forestry reported the "gooseneck" trailer was located along I-12 heading east near Hammond earlier in the day. There were no tags on the trailer to connect the cattle inside to a potential owner.

“We are looking for any information that may help us reunite these cattle with their owner. We are also working with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office to determine who left these cattle on the side of the road and why,” said LDAF Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M.

The cattle are currently being held at a local stockyard as TPSO deputies continue to investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the LDAF at 866-927-2476 or TPSO at 985-345-6150.
