ZACHARY - Liberty Magnet picked up their first district win after beating Zachary 52-31.

The Broncos struck first when Jeremy Patton took the first play off the game to the house for an early 7-0 Zachary lead.

Liberty would respond on the ground shortly after. Quarterback Brice Preston takes off on the QB keeper. He breaks loose and scores. The Patriots take an 8-7 lead after a successful two-point conversion.

The two teams went back and forth in the first half. Liberty would go up by 10 points after a big gain from Zaiden Foster. He got the Patriots inside the 5-yard line and they led 24-14 a few plays later.

The Patriots led 24-17 at halftime after Zachary kicked a field goal to capitalize on a fumble recovery.

The win gave Zachary their first loss of the season. The Broncos are now 5-1 on the season and 1-1 in 4-5A.

Liberty improves to 4-3 on the season and 1-1 in district play.

ZACHARY - The Zachary Broncos took a while to get going, but once they did, they never looked back. 

Zachary fumbled on their opening drive of the game. Scotlandville recovered the fumble and put the first points on the board and led 3-0.

Late in the second quarter, the game was tied at 3 when the Broncos got into the redzone. Michael Kirby handed it off to Tylek Lewis who took it up the middle for the first touchdown of the game. Zachary led 10-3.

On the ensuing drive, with just seconds left until halftime, Scotlandville quarterback Genard Green completed a pass to Dwayne Ben who finished the job for the touchdown. They tied the game 10-10 at halftime.

The Broncos' offense came to life late in the third quarter. Lewis rushed in another score to put Zachary up 17-10.

From there, the Broncos added some insurance and went on to win 31-16.

BATON ROUGE - District play is in full swing on the high school football scene. To kick off week six of the season, we saw many high scoring victories.

GONZALES - The East Ascension Spartans took down the Denham Springs Yellow Jackets 26-20 in the annual Battle of Burnside.

Denham Springs got on the board first when Da'Jean Goldmond connected with Trey Seals for a touchdown. It was 7-0 DSHS.

The Spartans answered in the second quarter when Zaylen Smith broke loose for a big run and the tying touchdown.

It was back and forth until the end when the Spartans came out on top 26-20.

East Ascension improves to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in district 5-5A. Denham Springs falls to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in district play.
