BATON ROUGE - Everyone is getting prepared to serve Thanksgiving dinner, but not everyone knows where their food came from. In Louisiana, a lot of it comes from our own backyard.

This time of year, a lot of attention is given to the human treatment of animals. Kleinpeter Farms has received its fifth perfect score for the care of the cows at its St. Helena Parish dairy farm. The honor comes as the American Humane Association unveils a national survey of 5,900 Americans showing overwhelming support for the humane treatment of farm animals raised for food.

"Providing the best care for our cows has been an obsession or our family since Kleinpeter Farms Dairy was founded 101 years ago," President Jeff Kleinpeter told 2une In's Rebecca Buchanan. "This survey tells us what we've known for a long time: Not only is caring for our cows the right thing to do, it's what our customers want us to do."

According to the survey, 94.9% of Americans are "very concerned"about farm animal welfare, up from 83% a year ago. More than 75% of people said they were willing to pay more for humanely produced eggs, meat and dairy products.
