Two arrested after officer involved shooting at Baton Rouge club
BATON ROUGE - Deputies say two men have been arrested in connection with an officer involved shooting at a Baton Rouge club Saturday morning.
According to the Louisiana State Police, 23-year-old Raheem Taylor and 33-year-old Donald Jones were transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish Correctional Center and booked.
Louisiana State Police say Taylor, another man named "DJ" and three others went to Club MVP around 2 a.m. Saturday. DJ later got into a disturbance with another person and was escorted out of the club.
As the group was leaving, police say a pickup truck pulled into a parking lot and Jones exited from the passenger side. Jones then got into a fight with the group then went back to the truck to retrieve a shotgun.
Investigators say Taylor pulled a pistol and fired several shots at Jones which was also in the same direction as two uniformed East Baton Rouge Sheriff's deputies.
The two deputies and a club security guard returned fire at Taylor and two people were hit. It is not immediately clear if the people were injuried by gunfire from the deputies or suspects. Both were transported to a local hospital and will survive. The deputies were not hurt.
Police say Taylor and the group fled the scene but were later stopped and surrendered to deputies in front of a business on Greenwell Springs Road.
Court documents say that Jones was arrested by Baton Rouge Police in Nov. 2008 for a multiple charges including attempted rape, false imprisonment, firearm charges and aggravated second degree battery. He is also on probation for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.
Taylor was arrested in Georgia in June 2010 and was convicted on felony drug and firearm charges. He was convicted in March 2014.
Deputies charged Taylor with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Jones was charged with five counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Earlier this month, deputies responded to a shooting call at the club. A fight grew to an altercation where someone was shot in the foot. People involved with the incident then did not cooperate with the investigation, the sheriff's office said in a previous WBRZ.com report.
