Prosecutors widen investigation on Rogers death

PORT ALLEN - Prosecutors are reconsidering how they may charge Mathew Hodgkinson, the man accused of shooting Scott Rogers and then turning the gun on himself, if he survives his injury.

Hodgkinson was once a student of Rogers in England where allegations of molestation haunted the dance teacher. It's why prosecutor Tony Clayton thinks the controlling persona of Rogers may have broken him down.

"In order to commit the crime of murder you have to have the intent to kill, which has a mental aspect to it, and I just think if you take a 14-year-old kid and have him abused over a period of 15-30 years then I think that diminishes his mental capacity to formulate specific intent," said Clayton.

Clayton also wants anyone who may have been molested by Rogers in the States to come forward, hoping to stop any additional crimes.

"It's the concept of co-conspirators. If you're involved in a crime of this magnitude then its gonna take more than one person to facilitate this type of action, and if there's an operation out there we want to know where it is and shut it down," said Clayton.

Clayton asks anyone with information to contact the Sheriff's office or the district attorney.

Rogers body was released from the coroner's office, but there is no word on a funeral.
