PORT ALLEN - Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a 15-year-old girl.
The girl, identified as Jazzimane Woods, was found inside an apartment just before 1 a.m on N. 14th Street. According to a family member, the apartment was owned by her aunt, who she was visiting.
Woods' father, Herman Forest Jr., said she was shot three times while she was getting ready for bed, and that other people were in the home at the time.
Officers found her suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to the Baton Rouge General hospital where she later died of shooting-related injuries.
"She was a ray of sunshine," Forest Jr. said. "She always wanted to be part of school functions and play sports."
Her grandfather, Herman Forest Sr., said he just wanted to know why it happened.
"I need some answers soon because my heart is hurting," Forest said.
