More batteries reportedly stolen from area school buses
BATON ROUGE - Authorities in Baton Rouge are saying that multiple East Baton Rouge Parish school buses are missing batteries Monday morning.
The thefts were reported before 7:30 a.m. Authorities say two buses were parked on S. 19th Street, one was on 22nd Street, and a fourth was on Florida Street when they were broken into.
Todd Prestridge owns a bus and RV repair shop in Baton Rouge. He's been in business since 1995 and says battery thieves have been a problem for some time.
"At least once every other month, you get a run through here. Especially coming up on holidays like Christmas, maybe 6 or 8 batteries get stolen," Prestridge said.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office is also investigating a theft in their jurisdiction this morning. Last week, the sheriff's office released a photo of a suspect believed to be responsible for stealing multiple other school bus batteries and reselling them.
Authorities didn't say if the recent thefts were connected.
