Missing woman's son makes emotional plea for her safe return

BATON ROUGE- The son of a missing woman fought back tears Wednesday, as he made an emotional plea for his mother's safe return.

Tahereh Ghassemi was last seen on Saturday. One day later, her blue Jaguar was found burned out off Monterrey near Choctaw.

"This is a first," Her son Hamid Ghassemi said. "This has never happened before."

Her son says Ghassemi came to Baton Rouge from Iran in 2005. She built a life here, had a job, loved gardening and cooking. Hamid last remembers speaking to his mother through a text message on Saturday.

"She had asked me what I wanted to eat for dinner," Ghassemi said. "I told her I would be late and that's the last time I talked to her."

When WBRZ visited the area where the burned out Jaguar was found, we discovered a charred owners manual, shattered glass and pieces of a sunroof.

We asked Ghassemi if his mother had any enemies.

"None that I can think of off the top of my head," Ghassemi said.

"It's devastating to us," Heather Rangeley said. "We are worried to death. We are praying that we can get her back safely."

As her son holds on to hope that she'll return, he had this emotional plea.

"I'm extremely heartbroken," Ghassemi said. "Anyone that has information, I beg of you...beg of you to please come forward, help me find my mother safe."

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating but has not released any information on possible suspects or motives. If you have any information on Ghassemi's disappearance, call the Sheriff's Office at 225-389-5000.
