Louisiana will help Michigan deal with that crawfish 'problem' (obviously)
LAFAYETTE – Remember how the Detroit, Michigan, area was going crazy over “invasive crayfish” found up there?
To help, it's Louisiana to the rescue (we saw this coming). Thursday, Louisiana experts are headed to Michigan. A group organized by Lafayette Travel, the Acadiana area's tourism department, will drive from South Louisiana to Michigan. The crawfish team will bring traps and frozen crawfish tails to host a crawfish boil Saturday.
"Once [the Department of Natural Resources] were on board and realized we wanted to help them and that this turned into more of an educational event; we were able to wrap our head around it because one thing us Cajuns know how to do is throw a festival and have a good time," Jesse Guidry, the VP Communications for Lafayette Travel, said. Guidry will be one of the people on the road trip this week.
The Louisiana group will also hold a discussion on the types of crawfish and host a Cajun band from Michigan who will provide additional Louisiana sounds to the event.
WBRZ.com reported earlier in August, there was a serious concern over crawfish found in Michigan because “of their ability to damage earthen structures and the threats they pose to the environment.”
