Drug deal leads to fatal shooting in Port Allen
PORT ALLEN- One person is dead and another injured after police say a drug dealer got greedy.
Port Allen Police Chief Esdron Brown said the shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Tracy Porter St. He says two men attempting to buy drugs were robbed at gun-point and shot by the dealer.
Investigators said Major Carter, 30, was shot in the back and died on the way to the hospital. Ashton Taylor, 25, was shot in the rear, but is expected to recover.
The deadly drug deal took place under a stairwell at the Courtland Village apartment complex. The Port Allen Police Chief said they hide in the shadows, making it easy to evade police and stash drugs.
"Guys from other areas will come over here," Chief Brown said. "They'll set up under these stairwells and try to sell narcotics."
People who live in the area said this problem is all too common at their complex and demand something change.
"Something is going to have to be done," said resident Andrew Wright. "They do that and they come back right and do the same thing over again."
No arrests have been made in this shooting but police think they know who shot the two men. Chief Brown says the shooter will face multiple charges including first degree murder.
