Donaldsonville family thinks man was killed for cash
DONALDSONVILLE - The family of Chad Nichols, one of two men killed on Latino Road Monday afternoon, thinks the gunmen were after cash and that's why they killed Nichols and one of his employees, Benny Booker.
Deputies aren't ready to pinpoint a motive as they continue to follow leads in the double murder.
"Looks like someone went there to rob them or just assassinate them, I don't know which, certainly it was a very violent situation, one man was found dead in the front yard, the other in near the doorway leading out of the home," said Chief Criminal Deputy Tony Bacala with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.
Today family members dug up the bloody spot where Nichols died, replacing it with flowers to symbolize new life.
As deputies look for the suspects they're asking anyone with information about the cars seen fleeing the scene to come forward.
Surveillance video captured two vehicles, a Dodge Magnum, that belonged to Booker, and a white BMW 3 Series, which they believe belonged to the gunman.
Now the Sheriff is promising to increase patrols in the city.
"We know we have problems there, we have been putting additional resources in, we've arrested a lot of people out of that small area, and certainly, we haven't stopped, so we're going to continue what we've been doing and beef up beyond what we have been doing and give it a greater focus," said Bacala.
