Denham Springs student-athlete, Remy Hidalgo, passes away
DENHAM SPRINGS - A beloved Denham Springs High School football player who collapsed at practice Tuesday passed away at a New Orleans hospital Friday morning.
Remy Hidalgo's mother, Ashley Roberson, announced the news of her son's death in a heartbreaking post on Facebook shortly after 4 a.m., Friday.

On Thursday night, Hidalgo's family said he was in desperate need of a blood transfusion and from then on his condition continued to deteriorate.
Livingston Parish Schools expressed its grief, as a community, at the news of the teen's death.
A representative issued a statement Friday morning, saying, "Today, the Livingston Parish Public School family and community mourns the loss of one of our student-athletes, Remy Hidalgo, a junior at Denham Springs High School.
Everyone is very saddened by this news. We all were praying and hoping for his recovery.
School counselors will be available today and in the coming days for any students or faculty who may need assistance. We ask for prayers today for his family and this community as we struggle with the loss of such a special young man."
Walker High was among locals schools expressing condolences, changing a digital display on campus to honor Remy.
Since Hidalgo's sudden collapse at football practice Tuesday, the community has rallied around the student-athlete and his family.
On Wednesday night, several hundred students gathered with candles in hand at the Denham Springs High School football stadium to pray for Hidalgo.
That same night, Coach O offered his support during a radio interview, saying, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the young man from Denham Springs who had an issue at practice yesterday."
Information related to funeral arrangements has yet to be released.
