BATON ROUGE - The city of Baton Rouge is hosting its third online auction this year.

From cars to rescue equipment, more than 195 items will be auctioned starting on Friday. The items come from all city departments.

City leaders said this is their third auction, and this could be the last one for this year. The auctions generate between $500,000 to $700,000, and most of the money goes back into city departments.

"Ten percent is transferred to the purchasing department for administrative cost, said Director of Purchasing for Baton Rouge, Patti Wallace.  "All other monies go back into those departments where the surplus equipment resided."

City leaders said their public auctions utlimately benefit everyone in the end.

"We get a good rate of return that goes into the general fund, said Wallace. "It allows us to make sure we're getting the best maximum rate of return for tax payers money.

The auction is two weeks only and starts on Friday. Click here to access the website.
