BATON ROUGE - The annual Blues Festival in East Baton Rouge has been delayed several months due to concerns related to the coronavirus.
Festival organizers announced Friday that the event will now take place Saturday, Sept. 18. It was originally scheduled for April 17 and 18.
"We weren't comfortable yet with maintaining an April date for 2021," Kim Neustrom, the executive director of the festival, said.
Friday's move by Neustrom and the festival's board comes after Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest rescheduled events until October, respectively.
"Having several more months time, getting through the spring, getting through the summer, having more people vaccinated," Neustrom said when explaining reasons that went into the decision to delay. "Working out these protocols that will be necessary to host an outdoor event for thousands of people, that's no small task."
The festival is expected to keep its usual timing in 2022.
