BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana Lottery says a 42-year-old woman from Zachary won a $1 million Powerball prize this week.

Tonya Vessel claimed her prize on Thursday. For the Jan. 6 drawing, lottery officials say her ticket matched all five white-ball numbers but missed the red Powerball number. The jackpot was worth $550 million.

After federal and state taxes were withheld, Vessel got $700,000. She bought her winning ticket at a store in New Roads.

The Powerball jackpot for Saturday night's drawing has grown to a record $900 million.

Powerball is played in 44 states as well as the District of Columbia, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
