Woman walking along highway killed in Christmas Eve crash
GREENSBURG - Troopers with Louisiana State Police said a woman walking along a St. Helena Parish highway was hit by a vehicle and killed on Christmas Eve.
State Police said 35-year-old Kristi Allen of Kentwood died in the wreck, which happened around 11 p.m. Thursday on LA 38 west of LA 1050.
Investigators said Allen was walking in the westbound lanes when a car traveling the same direction came upon her and hit her. Troopers said the wreck happened in a rural area with no street lights, and there was a light rain at the time of the crash.
LSP said Allen was taken to St. Helena Parish Hospital in critical condition, and died shortly after arriving at the medical center.
State Police said there were no signs at the scene, including a breath test, that the driver who hit Allen was intoxicated. Blood samples from both the victim and driver were sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
