Woman in critical condition after shooting on Canal St.
NEW ORLEANS - Police in New Orleans say a shooting near busy Canal Street seriously wounded a woman.
The 44-year-old woman was shot in the chest. Police said she is not believed to have been the target of the shooter when she was hit Wednesday afternoon. According to WWL-TV, she is currently in critical condition.
The shooting happened on South Rampart Street, less than a block from Canal Street at the edge of New Orleans' Central Business District. And it happened about four blocks away from a parade route, hours ahead of two Mardi Gras parades.
Police have not identified a suspect or motive in the shooting.
