Weekly unemployment insurance claims hold steady
BATON ROUGE - First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending July 4 remained the same from the previous week's total of 2,707.
For the comparable week a year earlier, the state department of labor said Friday there were 2,301 claims.
Construction had the largest decrease in initial claims, followed by administrative and waste services.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 2,758 from the previous week's average of 2,924.
Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending July 4 increased to 26,604 compared to 26,298 the previous week.
The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 26,293 from the previous week's average of 25,964.
