Weather service confirms tornado ripped through Ascension neighborhood Thursday
PRAIRIEVILLE - The National Weather Service says a confirmed tornado caused extensive damage in Ascension Thursday.
According to the Galvez-Lake Volunteer Fire Department, crews were called out to Prairieville sometime Thursday morning. The department said most of the damage was reported along Beech Road, Shirleyville Road and Chris Road.
The NWS confirmed Friday that an EF-1 tornado with speeds up to 105 mph ripped through the area.
No injuries were reported, but photos showed several fallen trees and roofs torn from some homes.
Residents are advised to watch out for fallen power lines and other hazards.
