UPDATE: LA 73 now open after overturned 18-wheeler caused closure

ASCENSION-  Highway 73 between Highway 30 and River Road in Geismar now open after being closed for about 6 hours due to an overturned 18-wheeler, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Hazmat was on the scene due to a small leak coming from a safety valve. According to DOTD, the leak was sulfuric acid.

Deputies and State Police were also on the scene. According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office the re-opening of the road would take up to six hours.

No injuries have been reported and no one has been transported as a result of the accident, according to Acadian Ambulance.
