BATON ROUGE - Another group in Baton Rouge spoke out Tuesday against the scheduled closure of the Baton Rouge General emergency room.

It's expected to shut down by the end of March since it's losing millions of dollars each year. The group "Together Baton Rouge" held a luncheon with dozens of faith and community leaders to discuss the closure.

"It demands that we stand up and speak out to ensure that the state, the lake and the general wake up. Our lives matter," said Pastor Richard Andrus.

The group says more needs to be done to keep the emergency room open. It feels mortality rates will increase without emergency room care in the heart of Baton Rouge.

"When you start closing hospitals once every three years in a whole community the idea that that would have no effect at all, maybe that's what's far-fetched," said Broderick Bagert.

Together Baton Rouge plans to hold a press conference at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital on Thursday, March 19 at noon to urge OLOL, Baton Rouge General and the state to figure something out.
