The Blood Center, LSU AgCenter to hold 36-hour blood drive
BATON ROUGE - The Blood Center is teaming up with the LSU AgCenter to host a 36-hour blood drive that beings Wednesday morning.
The blood drive will run from 9 a.m. and until Thursday at 9 p.m. The event will be held at the AgCenter 4H Mini Farm off Highland Road.
"Blood donations typically dip during the summer at the same time that hospital needs increase,” says Paul Adams, Public Relations Manager for The Blood Center. “Partnerships like the LSU AgCenter help insure that blood is available for patients.”
According to a release, all donors receive a 'Life-Saving University' shirt, Amazon gift card, coupons from participating businesses, a voucher for a large Domino’s pizza and a pint of Blue Bell ice cream along with hourly door prizes. There will also be food provided by several area restaurants.
All blood types are encouraged to donate. According to the organization while 60 percent of the population is eligible to donate blood, less than five percent actually donate. The Blood Center must collect between 300 to 350 pints of blood a day to maintain a healthy and stable community blood supply.
