Texas man going to Mississippi prison for 180 pounds of pot
BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - A Texas man is facing 10 years in a Mississippi prison after he was caught with 180 pounds (82 kilograms) of marijuana in his car.
The Sun Herald reports 27-year-old Danny Guzman of Laredo, Texas, pleaded guilty to marijuana trafficking in Hancock County, Mississippi. Guzman told a Circuit Court judge he was driving from Texas to Alabama with the pot packed away in his Nissan Rogue last year when authorities pulled him over on Interstate 10.
A news release from the district attorney's office says officers found marijuana on the front seat and floorboard of Guzman's vehicle. A search uncovered 20 bundles of pot stashed inside the Nissan.
Prosecutors say Guzman will not be eligible for parole.
