KIRBYVILLE, Texas (AP) - Police say a man suspected of killing his sister and wounding a friend at the Louisiana home the siblings shared fled to Texas and fatally shot himself.
Kirbyville police Chief Paul Brister says the suspect died Saturday just hours after gunfire near Merryville, Louisiana, 20 miles (32.19 kilometers) away.
Police in Kirbyville, 125 miles (201.16 kilometers) northeast of Houston, were notified about the fugitive wanted in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana. Brister says the suspect faced an attempted murder warrant for wounding his male friend and was suspected in his sister's death.
Police around 10 a.m. Saturday located the suspect's vehicle at a motel in Kirbyville. Brister says police called the suspect's room and negotiated - but then he shot himself.
