BATON ROUGE - Police said a tip led them to arrest a Baton Rouge man suspected of being a well-dressed bandit who robbed local gas stations and kidnapped a woman.

Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said officers arrested 53-year-old Michael West Thursday on suspicion of armed robbery at his home on North 35th Street.

Police said West robbed a gas station on Nicholson Drive earlier this week, taking cash while armed with a handgun. Police said the same man was believed to be connected to a gas station robbery in West Baton Rouge Parish the day before, where the station manage was kidnapped but later released unharmed.

Sheriff's deputies in West Baton Rouge Parish said a woman was driving the getaway vehicle West used in that kidnapping and robbery.

In both cases, police said the man seen robbing the store wore a yellow long-sleeve shirt. Surveillance photos also showed him in dress slacks and a tie at the West Baton Rouge gas station.
