Southern University hosts 5k run/walk
BATON ROUGE - Southern University kicked off their centennial and homecoming celebrations with the first "Jags Get Fit 5k Run/Walk Sunday afternoon."
The university hosted the event to promote healthy lifestyles among students and employees, all while kicking off the festivities for the coming days.
University Officials say they hope to move toward a healthier campus after Sundays efforts.
Dozens showed up to participate.
"Being a part of Southern University is just in my blood. You know, so I think it's very important. I'm excited about it and I can't wait to get this going," said Kenny Ricard, who is a Southern graduate.
Proceeds gotten from the run/walk will toward the university's student health center.
