Southern runs wild, Jaguars breeze by Central Methodist 52-14
BATON ROUGE - Southern University ran for almost 400 yards on the ground, and the Jags beat up on NAIA opponent Central Methodist 52-14.
A week after getting benched in the first quarter, quarterback Deonte Shorts earned another start and this time produced a much better result, completing 10 of 19 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown.
The big story, though, was the ground game, where the Jags ran for 395 yards and scored 6 rushing touchdowns.
Tyre Bracken led the way on the ground for the Jags, rushing for 125 yards and a touchdown on just 8 carries.
The Jaguars started the scoring with a 3 yard touchdown run by Malcolm Crockett.
After a Central Methodist touchdown, the Jags responded with a passing touchdown from Shorts to Reggie Travis to make the score 14-7.
The Jags also picked up touchdown runs from Jamarcus Jarvis, Brian McCann and Lenard Tillery.
