Sheriff: Woman arrested for leaving children alone at home
LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - A Louisiana woman has been accused of leaving her children alone at home and neglecting a dog.
A Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office statement says 23-year-old Mary Semien was arrested and charged with cruelty to juveniles, cruelty to animals and possession of synthetic marijuana.
The release says deputies responded to a report about children being home alone. It says deputies found the children, ages 4, 2, 1 and 3 months, locked in a room without air-conditioning. Three of them had on soiled diapers. It says deputies also found synthetic marijuana and an emaciated dog.
The release says Semien told deputies she left the children for about 10 minutes when she went to a neighbor's home. The children and dog were removed from the home.
It's unclear whether Semien has an attorney.
