Sewer rates to drop for W. Feliciana residents
ST. FRANCISVILLE - A sewage fee is raising a major stink in West Feliciana, and a change could be coming soon.
The current sewage system in the parish requires people to pay a $2,400 hookup fee to turn on new service to a location. That's leading some residents to speak out.
Leonard White says he was grandfathered into the current system and he didn't have to pay the fee. But now that he wants to sell some property he says the utility sticker shock is deterring people from buying in the area.
"I think that's just outrageous for them to charge $2400 to hook up a sewer system," said White.
Parish officials say they plan to cut down the $2400 fee to a one-time fee of $650. The issue will be discussed further at the next council meeting on Monday.
