HAMMOND - State Police sprayed foam across I-12 Monday afternoon to clean up a fuel tanker truck which flipped with a full load of gasoline near Hammond, blocking the highway.

Troopers closed I-12 in both directions after the big rig wreck on the eastbound side of the highway. Pictures posted by LSP to social media also showed an empty tanker truck brought out to pump off the remaining fuel from the flipped truck.

Westbound lanes opened again around 7 p.m.  Crews continued to work at the wreck site, keeping eastbound lanes closed between the I-55 interchange and the exit near Hammond Square Mall Monday evening.

The rest of the lanes reopened after 11 p.m., once the truck was towed away and sand was put on the highway surface.

The driver was treated for minor injuries.  Troopers said the investigation into what happened continues.  Preliminary reports suggest the driver of the semi lost control exiting I-55 to I-12 and the rig overturned.  There were no other vehicles involved.
