One arrested in hit-and-run accident that killed one, injured another
GRETNA - Louisiana State Police arrested a woman after she abandoned her vehicle in a vacant parking lot following a fatal hit and run.
Authorities conducted an investigation into the crash, which led to the arrest of 42-year-old Keichelle Adams. Adams was exiting US 90B at Stumpf Boulevard on April 25 when she struck two pedestrians.
According to an official release, 46-year-old Fredrika Smith was walking with another unidentified pedestrian down the exit ramp when Adams hit the two of them.
Smith's injuries were fatal and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The other pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital with "serious injuries."
Authorities were able to identify Adams by the damaged truck she left behind in a parking lot.
Adams was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on counts including driving under suspension, driving without insurance and responsibility for a hit and run resulting in death or injury.
