CENTRAL- One person died at the scene of an overturned crash on Greenwell Springs Road on Friday, June 19.

Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 21200 block of Greenwell Springs Road near Lighthouse Lakes Avenue around 9 p.m.

Upon arrival, crews found a GMC pickup truck overturned of the westbound side of the roadway with a male driver ejected from the vehicle.

The driver was later identified as 27-year-old Jesse Curtis McKenzie.

Officials say McKenzie was traveling northbound on LA 37 when the vehicle crossed over the southbound lanes and flipped over the ditch, landing on its roof on the roadway.

Police report McKenzie was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Toxicology samples were taken as part of the investigation.

This is the second fatal crash along this stretch of LA 37 within the last month.
