BATON ROUGE- Department of Public Safety officer Michael Selders posted a $25,000 bail and got out of jail today, following an arrest on sexual battery and malfeasance charges.

The arrest stems from a traffic stop over the weekend at the corner of Pride Port Hudson Road and Plank Road. Arrest records show Selders is accused of pulling a woman over, grabbing her breasts and touching her private areas.

When detectives questioned him about it, Selders admitted to pulling the woman over but said he did not have any inappropriate contact with her. Detectives said his interview was loaded with inconsistencies, and he was arrested for malfeasance in office and sexual battery.

"His equipment was taken from him and depending on the outcome of the investigation will determine the outcome of employment with us," JB Slaton with State Police said.

Selders was assigned to physical security patrols at the Department of Public Safety Compound. Questions are being raised about why he pulled a woman over for a traffic violation when he was assigned to building security.

"Officer Selders is a fully commissioned police officer so he is in a fully marked police unit," Slaton said. "In the event any gross violations are observed on the road, he is required to take action."

State Police said Selders has no prior disciplinary history. The investigation could take a couple of weeks to a couple of months.
