North Carolina man & woman killed by train
DURHAM, N.C. - Police in North Carolina say two people are dead after an Amtrak train hit them as they were on the tracks.
Police say the accident happened shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday in Durham, when the northbound train hit a man and a woman. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said train No. 80, the Carolinian, was headed from Charlotte to New York City when the accident occurred on property owned by Norfolk-Southern. He says the train continued on its route after a delay of about two hours and 45 minutes.
Authorities say none of the 166 passengers on the train was injured.
Durham is located about 25 miles northwest of Raleigh.
