NEW ORLEANS, La. (WWL-TV) - The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a traffic fatality that left a 49-year-old bicyclist dead in the Central Business District.

The accident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cleveland and South Saratoga streets.

According to witnesses, the unidentified victim was travelling eastbound on S. Saratoga Street when he disregarded a stop sign. A 35-year-old driver a red Pontiac Grand Am traveling down Cleveland Street then struck him.

After striking the bicyclist, the driver pulled over on the side of the road, at which point another 67-year-old male driver of a black Dodge Caliber also struck the bicyclist.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he later died. Officials say both drivers remained on scene.

The 35-year-old driver was cited for driving without a license. The investigation is still ongoing.
