Netflix offers new parents a year off of work
LOS GATOS - Families expecting a child and also looking for a new job might try Netflix since the video service company announced Tuesday it will offer a year's paid leave to workers who have newborns.
The Associated Press reported the news was first posted to the company's blog. It will apply to all of the 2,000 employees.
Experts believe it's a move to help the company vie for talent in an already competitive field where job seekers are offered lavish salaries, free meals and other incentives.
Google, which consistently ranks among the best places to work, offers 18 weeks of paid maternity leave. Parents can also take up to 12 weeks of paid "baby bonding" time during their child's first year.
Countless jobs were listed on the company's job openings page Tuesday night.
