Monroe man killed in attempted robbery
MONROE - Police say a 29-year-old Monroe man was shot and killed during an attempted robbery.
Three men in a vehicle had been approached by three armed men who demanded valuables from them early Sunday morning.
When they refused, police say Marcus Montgomery, one of the people in the vehicle, was shot in the abdomen. He died at St. Francis Medical Center.
Assistant Monroe Police Chief Don Bartley says a short time later a man sitting on his porch was approached by three men who took his car keys and drove off in his blue Cadillac.
Bartley says the car owner chased after the suspects and was shot and grazed in the leg.
Bartley said it is unknown if the two shootings are related.
