Mom accused of violating son's medical privacy
SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI- A mom is accused of violating her seven-year-old son's medical privacy by taking a picture of him being examined by a doctor.
She was ordered to give up her cell phone after she posted the picture to social media.
Mandy Kay Wilson says a security guard at a hospital told sher she violated federal HIPPA privacy laws and the doctor became upset after seeing the picture included a small frame of his his daughter.
HIPPA is designed to protect patient privacy and she posts pictures online to try and raise money for her son's expensive hearing aids. She did not surrender her phone.
The hospital says it regrets the confusion and will review its policies and that the staff acted out of consideration of other patients.
