Michael Bloomberg knighted
LONDON- The former mayor of New York is know "an Honorary Knight of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire" but he won't be known as Sir Michael Bloomberg.
Queen Elizabeth II bestowed the honor on Bloomberg but since he is a U.S. citizen, he isn't entitled to use "sire" before his name but can use the initials "KBE" after it. He was recognized for his "prodigious entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavors."
He was mayor of New York from 2002 to 2013 and is in charge of the news and financial information company Bloomberg LP.
He joins director Steven Spielberg, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and actress Angelina Jolie with the honor.
