BATON ROUGE - The Metro Council is looked at improving security at all Head Start programs throughout the parish at its meeting on Wednesday.

The Council approved a measure to allow for the installation of a special security laminate covering on all windows and doors on the parishe's 14 Head Start buildings.

"I know the importance of keeping those children safe. And they're in our care. (When parents) drop their kids off, they want to pick up that same child in that same condition," said Paula Merrick-Roddy, the director of the Division of Human Development Services.

Merrick-Roddy is the one who proposed the changes. It would cost close to $80,000 to implement the coverings, money which will come from a federal grant.

The proposal still has to get approval from the Administration For Children and Families before any changes are made.
