Manhunt ended for wanted sex offender
BATON ROUGE - State police say the manhunt for a sex offender now wanted for robberies in Livingston Parish was called off around 11 p.m. Thursday.
Dennis Shampine remains at large.
Shampine was spotted Thursday morning walking near the Amite river bridge by a state trooper, prompting an 14-hour search after he ran into the woods. Multiple helicopters and dogs, along with members of several law enforcement agencies were part of the search efforts.
Shampine has been at large for several weeks. Thursday's search was centered along the Amite river from East Baton Rouge to Livingston.
A sighting of Shampine caused Walker schools to go on lockdown Tuesday.
Shampine is wanted for failing to register as a sex offender, battery and robbery.
