Man shot during firefight with police booked
BATON ROUGE - Authorities said a man who shot at police officers during a chase in Baton Rouge and was shot himself is now out of the hospital and behind bars.
Sheriff's deputies booked 28-year-old Kevin Knight Wednesday on charges of attempted first-degree murder, flight from an officer, criminal property damage and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Baton Rouge Police said on Dec. 13 Knight fled from officers investigating a domestic disturbance on Jackson Avenue. BRPD said Knight hit a home with his vehicle and took off on foot, firing several shots at the police who were pursuing him.
Investigators said none of the six officers were hit. They returned fire, hitting Knight several times in the torso.
Knight was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries and was released to the jail once he was well enough.
The officers involved in the shooting, three of whom were recent academy graduates, were placed on administrative leave per department protocol.
