PLAQUEMINE- Authorities in Jefferson Parish say a man who was in a nursing home has been arrested in connection with the killing and sexual assault of a 73-year-old woman three decades ago.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said in a news release that 60-year-old Donnie London was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder in the death of Elma Kolman.
The woman's body was found in a vacant lot near her Jefferson home in 1984. Sheriff's office spokesman Col. John Fortunato says investigators believed she had been grabbed and sexually assaulted before being killed.
Fortunato says London was living near Kolman at the time.
Authorities say London admitted to the crime after investigators found him at a Plaquemine nursing home following a routine review of cold cases that turned up a DNA match.
It isn't clear if he has an attorney.
