Man accused of trying to set mistress on fire
BATON ROUGE - Police said they arrested a 79-year-old man Saturday accused of attempting to set his mistress on fire after she told his wife about their lengthy affair.
According to the arrest report, Carlos Garrido told detectives that he poured a flammable liquid on the woman before he tried to ignite her with a barbecue lighter after she told his wife they had been engaged in an affair for several years. The report goes on to say that Garrido tackled his mistress when she tried to avoid being set ablaze, but she was able to get away and contact authorities.
Garrido was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of attempted second-degree murder.
