LSU, ULL prepare for Super Regional collision
BATON ROUGE - The winnner of the LSU/ Louisiana Lafayette showdown this weekend will earn the crown that goes with being called "the Kings of Louisiana," according to Ragin' Cajuns shortstop Blake Trahan.
The Tigers have often worn that crown (seeking their 17th College World Series appearance if they can win 2 of 3 against the Cajuns) but ULL is hungry to take that title, if only for a season.
The Cajuns, who haven't been to the CWS since 2000, lost in the Super Regional round last year at home to Ole Miss and have remarkably gotten back to this stage despite losing 6 of 9 position players and their entire weekend starting rotation.
Meanwhile, LSU missed the Super Regional last year, but they are looking for their 2nd CWS appearance in the last 3 years.
The Cajuns will start freshman Wyatt Marks (6-1, 3.32 ERA) in Saturday's game, while Paul Mainieri will throw freshman Alex Lange (11-0, 1.76 ERA) for the Tigers. First pitch is scheduled for 7PM and will air on ESPN2.
