BATON ROUGE- Everyone knows exercise is healthy, but for some people that's not enough motivation. This morning, Dr. Neil Johannsen from the Pennington Biomedical Research Center stopped by 2une In to talk about the importance of physical activity.

"In 2008 the first set of guidelines came out from the federal government that actually supported physical activities," Johannsen told News 2's Kylie Dixon.

One of the key points from that study was that people need to get up and do something. Since then, multiple reports have shown that sedentary lifestyles can negatively impact your overall health.

"Sedentary lifestyles actually increase your risk of diabetes two-fold," said Johannsen.

The recommended amount of physical activity is about 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a week.

Dr. Johannsen will be speaking tonight at Chelsea's Cafe as part of LSU's Science Cafe.

In his speech he will touch on some general guidelines for healthy exercise regiments, as well as the importance of physical exercise to combat metabolic disease.
