LSP: Teen killed in wreck wasn't wearing seat belt
JACKSON - State Police investigators said a Baker teen killed in a wreck early Thursday morning wasn't wearing their seat belt.
Troopers said 18-year-old Mekala Brooks died after the two-vehicle wreck on LA 964 north of LA 955 in East Feliciana Parish. The other driver in the wreck had minor injuries.
Investigators said Brooks was driving south on LA 964 around 6:45 a.m. when she went into a curve and crossed the center line, then began to skid sideways. A pickup heading north on the highway hit her car on the driver's side.
Troopers said Brooks was thrown from her vehicle because she wasn't wearing her seat belt and died from her injuries.
State Police said they don't believe the drivers were impaired, but they are analyzing blood samples from both drivers at the State Crime Lab.
