Louisiana ACA's enrollment tops 193,000

BATON ROUGE- The number of Louisiana residents who got coverage through the federal insurance marketplace reached 193,249 as of Jan. 9, roughly 7,000 more than last year's total.
For the first time, HealthCare.gov's figures included numbers for the state's metro areas.
In the New Orleans area, 79,984 consumers either picked plans or were automatically re-enrolled in an Affordable Care Act plan. In the Baton Rouge market, 41,186 consumers and in the Lafayette area, 24,003 consumers.
The totals for the other metro areas included 33,634 for Shreveport; 8,770 in Alexandria; 6,591 consumers in Lake Charles; and 19,782 in the Monroe-El Dorado, Arkansas, market.
Consumers have until Jan. 15 to sign up for coverage starting Feb. 1. Open enrollment ends Jan. 31.
